Akshay Kumar's recent release Padman has been one of the most anticipated movies of 2018. The movie happens to be a social drama dealing with the age-old taboo of menstruation. It also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in key roles.
Given the unusual subject it was dealing with along with the commendable promotional strategy, PadMan managed to get a good response from the audience.
Indeed the hopes were high for the box office collection. H fact it was also speculated that if Akshay's social drama will be able to beat Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat in terms of first day collection.
Well, the media reports suggested that PadMan got a decent opening at the box office and witnessed 20-25 percent occupancy in the morning shows on the opening day.
However, despite all the hype created about the movie, PadMan has failed to beat Padmaavat at the box office.
PadMan made a collection of Rs 10.26 crore on its first day, while Padmaavat minted Rs 19 crore on its day of release.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took it to microblogging to share the first day box office collection of Akshay Kumar's movie.
He wrote, "#PadMan has a DECENT start... Fri ₹ 10.26 cr... The biz, expectedly, picked up towards evening/night shows... The journey ahead is crucial... Sat + Sun should witness strong growth for a good weekend total... India biz."

According to the media reports, PadMan is expected to witness growth in the weekend owing to the word of mouth review and the good acting skills.
Looks like the Padmaavat fever has taken a toll on PadMan's collections.
Interestingly, PadMan was earlier scheduled to have a box office clash with Padmaavat starring Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone on January 25
However, Akshay Kumar along with the makers of PadMan chose to push the release of the movie.
Seems that was a wise decision for the movie. Now it will be interesting to see how PadMan will fare at the box office.
