Actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada on Saturday said that Sultan Alauddin Khilji's character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-anticipated period drama Padmaavat reminded her of year-old enemy and Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan.

"When I was watching Padmaavat, Khilji’s character reminded me of Azam Khan ji, how he had harassed me during elections when I was contesting," ANI quoted the former MP from Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, the former actress has accused Khan even of arrogance and foul play several times. While in 2009, Azam Khan was charged for spreading her 'cheap' posters to spoil her image, in 2012 Jaya vowed to destroy arrogance of the UP leader.

Padmaavat is based on the 13th century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi. While Shahid Kapoor was seen essaying the character of Ratan Singh, Khilji was played by Ranveer Singh.

Also starring Deepika Padukone in the lead, Padmaavat was mired in controversy since inception. Several fringe outfits including Rajput Karni Sena had accused Bhansali of distorting historical facts in the flick. A rumoured sequence between Khilji and Queen Padmavati has given birth to such controversies.

However, after creating a lot of buzz over its controversial storyline, Padmaavat finally hit the theatres on January 25.
