Alia Bhatt is set to headline Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and the film will release on September 11, 2020. According to the makers, Bhansali will co-produce the film with Jayantilal Gada’s Pen India Limited.
The announcement comes a month after Alia said she would be working with the celebrated filmmaker “very soon”. Directed by Bhansali, ‘In-shaa-allah’, starring Alia and Salman Khan, could not come to fruition as the project was shelved in August.
The movie, which was a co-production between Salman and Bhansali’s banners, would have marked the director-actor duo’s first collaboration in two decades where Salman was supposed to play the lead.
Recently, Alia shared an emotional note written by her mother Soni Razdan Alia wrote, "One of those days where I miss my mother terribly and find this by my bedside! #mothersjustknow (sic)."
The note read as, "Darling Alia, This is for you to keep by your bedside to read every now and then and get reminded of how much I love you. Mama. (sic)."
Reacting to the post, Soni Razdan dropped several heart emotions in the comments section. A lot of celebrities such as Diana Penty and Dia Mirza also commented.
The mother-daughter duo worked together in the 2017 film Raazi. Soni had once shared a still of the 'bidaai' scene from the film on Instagram and had written, ''This song had us all crying while we were shooting it. We didn’t need no glycerine. Mother daughter, bidai, dont go, Raazi.''
