Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has stood true to his words and fulfilled a promise he made during Swachh Bharat campaign. He had given his word to help manual scavengers by buying machines.

The Pink actor took to his Twitter handle to share the happy news and wrote, “T 3005 – At the NDTV Cleanathon, ‘banega swachch india’ , seeing the inhuman plight of the manual scavenger, I had committed to buy 50 machines for them .. today I fulfilled that promise ! 25 small individual machines and one large truck machine gifted to BMC !”

Amitabh exclaimed that he wanted to bring changes in the manual scavenger work, by eliminating the manual efforts of physically and manually going down the manholes and sewer drainages, in a letter dated November 24. He addressed the letter to the Manual Scavengers Association (MSA) and the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The 76-year-old actor has contributed Rs 59 lakh overall towards this cause. Rs 25 lakh will be used as the cost of the truck and one large automated scavenging machine. Big B will also be donating two small manual machines while the remaining money will be utilised to buy 26 smaller machines. The machines will be brought in use once Amitabh is in possession of them. The actor has also appealed to BMC and MSA to provide with necessary information on how to use the equipment in the correct manner.
