Amitabh exclaimed that he wanted to bring changes in the manual scavenger work, by eliminating the manual efforts of physically and manually going down the manholes and sewer drainages, in a letter dated November 24. He addressed the letter to the Manual Scavengers Association (MSA) and the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The 76-year-old actor has contributed Rs 59 lakh overall towards this cause. Rs 25 lakh will be used as the cost of the truck and one large automated scavenging machine. Big B will also be donating two small manual machines while the remaining money will be utilised to buy 26 smaller machines. The machines will be brought in use once Amitabh is in possession of them. The actor has also appealed to BMC and MSA to provide with necessary information on how to use the equipment in the correct manner.
