Amitabh Bachchan Faces Twitter Ire Over ‘Metro Tweet’.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently sent out a tweet that didn't quite go well with the Twitterati. Bachchan said that metro was a faster, convenient and efficient mode of transport. Calling it a 'solution for pollution' he urged everyone to plant more trees, just like he has done in his garden. As soon as the tweet was shared, the actor was slammed by his fans and reminded about the 'Aarey forest protest' in Mumbai.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit also slammed Amitabh Bachchan and wrote, ''Respected @SrBachchan Sir. We as activists fighting to #SaveAarey would like to know whether this tweet means that U support #MetroCarshed at Aarey ? Why Massacre 2700 fully grown trees when one has alternatives. Development at the cost of nature is dangerous to mankind.''

Today, people also stood outside his bungalow at Jalsa, to protest against his post, and held posters in support of Aarey forests. This incident comes after the decision of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's tree Authority to slash 27,000 trees in the Aarey forest, for the metro. Celebrities including legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Dia Mirza, Raveena Tandon, Randeep Hooda, Esha Gupta and comedian Kapil Sharma among others, have been opposing the move.

Along with Bollywood stars and the MNS, Thackeray scion, Aaditya Thackeray has been opposing ally BJP's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the felling of trees.

Meanwhile, Bachchan had tweeted, ''Friend of mine had a medical emergency, decided to take metro instead of his car .. came back very impressed .. said was faster, convenient and most efficient .. Solution for Pollution ...Grow more trees .. I did in my garden .. have you." (sic)."

He had received positive response from MMRCL (Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation) chief Ashwini Bhide as well. She had written, "Thank u @SrBachchan ji fr depicting d importance of #Metro so succinctly. Thank you for ur support. We'r committed 2 commission entire #MumbaiMetro network incldng @MumbaiMetro3 @ d earliest r prvide faster, safer, convenient & #PollutionFree commute 2 #Mumbaikars #AareyAikaNa (sic)."
