Amitabh Bachchan has shown his charitable side again, this time to the farmers of Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, Bachchan has helped pay the loans of 1398 farmers from the state, which amounts to Rs 4.05 crore. The 76-year-old megastar shared the news on his blog. “Gratitude leans across to the desire of removing some of the burdens that farmers continue to suffer from... It was Maharashtra first, when over 350 farmers loans were taken care of... now it is UP and 1398 of them that had out standings of loans on banks has been done with an outlay of 4.05 crore. This is not the first time that Bachchan has shown his charitable side. Earlier in June, Bachchan had donated an amount of Rs 2 crore to the farmers and widows of Indian Army Martyrs'. Bachchan and his family donated 25 lakhs to a charitable trust which worked for the betterment of girls. The actor, dubbed the 'angry young man' of Bollywood following his blockbuster moves in the 70s, has also helped the Maharashtra Police welfare fund by giving them an amount of Rs 11 lakh.  Bachchan also reportedly donated Rs 51 lakh to The Kerala flood relief effort. The Kerala floods are considered to be one of the worst natural calamities that struck India in August 2018.

Uttar Pradesh, one of the biggest states in India, relies a lot on agriculture. However, in the last couple of years, the farmers have suffered tremendously, leading to crop destruction, unemployment and even farmer suicides. In 2017, the Central Government announced the Supreme Court that over 12,000 suicides were reported in the agricultural sector every year since 2013.
