Irrfan Khan and Radhika Madan starrer Angrezi Medium has taken a hit after the shut-down of theatres across India amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus. As per a Box Office India report, the film’s collections further dropped on Saturday, with the film making an estimated Rs 2.75 crore nett on day 2. The film has earned Rs 6.78 crore in two days. On the opening day, Angrezi Medium managed to collect Rs 4.03 crore. Sharing the day 1 collection, trade analyst Taran Adarsh had written on Saturday, ''#AngreziMedium Fri 4.03 cr. #India biz. Note: Biz has been severely affected due to closure of cinema halls in several states. #CoronaVirus #COVID19.''

With cinemas remaining shut, the possibility of numbers picking up remain slim. The film depicts the beautiful father-daughter relationship in the most hard-hitting way. It is a journey of a father who strives hard to give his daughter the best education.

Producer Dinesh Vijan recently revealed that the movie will arrive on a new date in theatres in Delhi, Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir. "'Angrezi Medium' has been a journey I shall cherish all my life. The one thing I've learnt from its making is that whatever be the obstacle, if we pour our heart and soul into something, the universe will have our back. "As the film now reaches India, we have already received unabashed love from Dubai and other international territories. Due to unforeseen circumstances it will however not release in Kerala, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir," Vijan said in a statment.

Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in March 2018. He left for London in the same month for the treatment and returned to India in February 2019. During his brief visit, Irrfan filmed Angrezi Medium. A couple of months later, he flew into London again to continue the treatment. Irrfan Khan returned to India after his surgery in September last year. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Meanwhile, a release of a number of big budget films such as Sooryavanshi, Vicky Kaushal’s Udham Singh biopic and Fast and Furious 9 have been postponed. Not just that, shooting of a number of films such as Jersey, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Brahmastra were cancelled too due to coronavirus. However, the shoot of a few films such as Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, Vidya Balan’s Sherni and Bhumi Pednekar’s Durgavati continue as per schedule.
