Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has raised questions on the popular custom of cutting cakes on birthdays in his recent Facebook post. His questions include:

- Why cake on birthdays?

- Why candles on cakes?

- Why candles are being lit up?

- Why candles are being blown off?

- Why cake is being cut by knife?

- Why first piece is being offered to most special person?

- Why the cake is being put on the faces of people?

He then says that there are many native sweets that are being made in India which include Jalebi, Khoya, Rosgulla, Cham cham, Ladoo, Peda, Kheer and Burfi etc. He posed questions on why it is not being used on the occasion of birthdays.

As well, he emphasised that we have tradition to lit up lamps, blowing it off is not considered an auspicious thing. Then, why it is done on birthdays? He further mentions that Britishers have left India long time back and we are still following them.

Amitabh Bachchan celebrated his 74th birthday on October 11. His birthday coincided with the festival of Vijaydashmi this year.
