Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) on Thursday evening demolished a 2,000 sq ft of canteen of Red Chillies VFX Office in Goregaon. Shah Rukh Khan along with his wife Gauri Khan are the owners of Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
An official statement has been made by Red Chillies team about the incident and said that the company doesn’t own the office area and it was a rented space.
Red Chillies spokesperson said, “Red Chillies VFX is a tenant and not the owner of the property mentioned. The building has an open area outside with seating which employees use for eating food that they get from home. It is not an operational canteen’’.
Addingifurther he said, ‘’However, due to a misunderstanding, the part which the BMC demolished are the energy saving solar panels which provided clean energy to the entire VFX division. Red Chillies VFX is taking this up with the concerned authorities at the BMC’’.
Over the action BMC official said that the demolition was conducted on the fourth floor where a canteen was illegally constructed for the employees of Red Chillies situated in DLH Maxx building in Goregaon. The canteen was not permitted by the BMC, he added.
He further said, "After local ward officers received the complaint about illegality in the construction of the canteen, our officers concerned found the complaint true. It was therefore demolished today’’.
Assistant municipal commissioner and ward officer Chanda Jadhav said, "The terrace need to be remain open to sky, but they have changed it into usable area. They have covered the terrace which is violation of FSI rule and fire safety norms."
BMC official had visited the premises and found that the terrace was covered and was being used as an office canteen. The municipal corporation issued a notice asking Shah Rukh Khan for removal of illegal alteration.
Shah Rukh approached to court to get stay orders but was unable to receive any relief. So, BMC decided to demolish the illegal structure.
In the past, a ramp outside Shah Rukh Khan’s residence ‘Mannat’ was also demolished by BMC.
