Cannes 2017 | Shruti Haasan's 'Sanghamithra' to outstrip 'Baahubali 2'

After drooling people over the beauty, look and appearances of end number of divas Cannes 2017 has set yet another buzz as Shruti Haasan's upcoming Tamil epic 'Sanghamithra' has already been launched in the festival.

Latest media report suggests that director Sundar C's magnum opus is made under a budget of Rs 250 Cr and produced by Thenandal Studios.

So, the 70th Cannes Festival is a bit more special as this year it introduces the Tamil cinema in world of The French Riviera after a continuous absence during these years.

Also starring Jayam Ravi and Arya the historical drama is also blessed with the music of world acclaimed musician A R Rahman.

Rahman along with the star casts of the movie have also been seen to made an appearance in the Festival de Cannes to launch the film officially.

After Rajmouli's magnum opus 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' shattered all the box office records across world, 'Sanghamithra' 'promises to outstrip' the Prabahs-starrer in terms of scale and grandeur.

'Baahubali: The Conclusion', best known as 'Baahubali 2' hit the box office on April 28 and is rulling the screens worldwide till the date.

According to media reports, director Sundar C, who has been working on the film for three years, describes Sanghamithra as a 'fantasy' inspired by Tamil history and set in the eighth century.

"Sanghamithra will be grandly entertaining. This is the film that I have always been aspiring to make. I've had the Sanghamithra idea with me for a decade now. I was waiting for the right kind of budget and the necessary technology to come my way. The time is now ripe. I wanted to be sure that I'd be able to do full justice to the magnitude of the tale before embarking upon making it", Sundar was quoted while interacting with reporters.

"Sanghamitra will go beyond the Rajamouli-directed VFX blockbuster. Baahubali took south Indian cinema to the national level while Sanghamithra will take it to the global league. That is what we are aiming at and that is why we are in Cannes to launch the film", he further added.

Sundar C who is best known for films like Rajinikanth's Arunachalam and Kamal Haasan's Anbe Sivam has described his past releases as the stepping stones towards 'Sanghamithra'.

Being proud he said, "All the hits that I have delivered thus far were only stepping stones towards this film. Sanghamithra is going to be 'the' film of my directing career".

Being the first instalment of this historical drama 'Sanghamithra' is slated to release by the end of 2018.
