Cannes Film Festival: Manto selected in Un Certain Regard section

Nandita Das directorial Manto has been selected for competition in the Cannes Film Festival sub section Un Certain Regard. The movie which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the role of Saadat Hasan Manto is yet to release in India.

The Un Certain Regard is a section of the French Film Festival which was introduced in 1978 by Gilles Jacob. The section features 20 different and original works which present the story in a non-traditional way.

The 71st edition of Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 8 to May 19.

The official Twitter handle of Cannes Film Festival announced Manto’s selection in Un Certain Regard section. Thebiographical drama will compete with films like BlacKkKlansman to win the prestigious Palme d'Or award.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who was recently seen in McMafia, took to Twitter to share the good news with his fans. The Monsoon Shootout actor congratulated his director and the entire team.

Interestingly Manto is Nandita’s second film as a director after Firaaq, which was released in 2008.

Nandita Das thanked her well-wishers and fans for their love and support on Facebook.

Manto which also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Rasika Duggal and Paresh Rawal has been written by Nandita Das.
