New Delhi:

Prasoon Joshi, who has just been appointed as the chairman of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) banned the first film which came for certification under the Board on the ground of excessive violence.

It was a Punjabi film ‘Toofan Singh’ which is directed by Baghal Singh. The film stars Ranjit Bawa in the lead role who fights corruption in the Indian bureaucracy and politics.

A source from CBFC said, “Toofan Singh is a terrorist, who goes on a rampage killing corrupt cops and politicians. And they’ve compared him to Bhagat Singh. The film is brutal and anarchic. We couldn’t empathise with its message of brute power, let alone grant it a censor certificate’’.

However, the movie has been released on overseas screens but its future on Indian cinemas hangs in balance.

Pahlaj Nihalani, who was CBFC chief before Prasoon Joshi was sacked before the completion of his tenure on August 11, which was supposed to end in January 2018.
