Meghna, who is riding high on the success of Raazi, had said that Deepika will be seen in heavy prosthetics in the film, which serves as the actor’s follow-up to Padmaavat. “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika,†Meghna had said at an event in Chennai recently.
Deepika had last week shared a new behind-the-scenes picture from Chhapaak which shows her at a table read session with her co-star Vikrant Massey and director Meghna Gulzar. They are joined by noted lyricist and Meghna’s father, Gulzar. “All things are ready, if our mind be so,†Deepika quoted William Shakespeare in the caption.

Chhapaak is based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, who has previously voiced her approval of Deepika being chosen to play her. “I am so happy that Deepika is playing the role. I have no right to judge her. How can I judge someone for something which I can’t do. She has played wonderful characters on screen and I believe she will give her best. I want to thank Deepika ji, Meghna ji and the entire team who will be working together on the film,†she said as quoted by a leading daily.
The movie is close to the actress’ heart as it marks her foray into production under her banner KA Entertainment. Chhapaak, produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika Padukone’s KA Entertainment and Meghna Gulzar’s Mriga Films, is all set to hit the theatres on January 10, 2020.
