After reports of megastar Amitabh Bachchan being admitted to Nanavati Hospital in suburban Mumbai for the past three days, did the rounds, a hospital source confirmed that the actor indeed was there but not for liver transplant as it was earlier reported but for a regular check-up.

The 77-year-old actor was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and is still there, they said. "Mr Bachchan had come for a routine check-up," a hospital source told PTI.

Initial reports in Mumbai said Bachchan was hospitalised due to liver issues but there was no clarity on that.

Bachchan on Thursday greeted his fans on the occasion of 'Karwa Chauth' festival. He celebrated his 77th birthday on October 11 with his family and close friends. Reports also suggest that the Bachchan family has been visiting the actor frequently and he has been kept in a special room equivalent to ICU. However, no Bollywood celebs have come to visit him as most of them are not aware of the news.

For the uninitiated, Bachchan's liver lost 75 per cent of its functioning after he contracted Hepatitis B virus while undergoing treatment for his accident at teh sets of Coolie in 1982.

Meanwhile, Bachchan wished his fans on Karwa Chauth wih a picture oh his with Jaya Bachchan visiting an art museum. "Karva chauth ki shubhkamanayein .. unhein jo pran karti hain pati ki jeevan ke liye" said the actor.

On the work front, Amitabh is currently busy with multiple projects, including the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The actor has already wrapped shooting for Ayan’s upcoming film, Brahmastra. It stars Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor in lead roles, besides Mouni Roy. The film will hit screens next year.
