Deepika Padukone who graced the inaugural of JIO MAMI Mumbai Film Festival as its chairperson in polka-dotted blue dress revealed that she has taken up a ‘dark romantic’ film for her upcoming venture post Chaapaak and ’83.

Deepika Padukone who graced the inaugural of JIO MAMI Mumbai Film Festival as its chairperson in polka-dotted blue dress revealed that she has taken up a ‘dark romantic’ film for her upcoming venture post Chaapaak and ’83. 

At the Jio MAMI Movie Mela with Star, 2019, when film critic and moderator Anupama Chopra asked if the actor has decided to do a romantic film next, Deepika said, "I have found a film that I am likely to do early next year but it's not light. It's quite dark but still in the romance space."

Deepika who entered the film industry with a re-incarnation drama, Om Shanti Om and then when on to feature in successful romantic dramas -- "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Cocktail" and "Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela’’ was last seen in period drama Padmavaat opposite Ranveer Singh.

Prior to the new film, Deepika will be seen in "Chhapaak" in the role of acid attack survivor and also have a special appearance in Kabir Khan's "'83". The film will see her essay the role of Romi Dev, wife to cricketing legend Kapil Dev, to be played by her real-life husband Ranveer Singh. 

Earlier there were reports that Deepika has joined Ajay Devgn and Ranbir Kapoor for Luv Ranjan’ next but the actress denied any collaboration of the sort happening. Later the movie went in to back burnet after the two lead actors walked out of the film. Latter Deepika was seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s making fans guess that she might be the filmmakers choice for Gangubai. 

Talking more about her equation with husband Ranveer on the sets of ’83 she said "We are very different than what we are otherwise. We may not even sometimes drive together because we are in a different head space. It's not on purpose. There's no expectation of behaving like husband and wife or boyfriend and girlfriend when you're working.”

The MAMI festival will officially begin on October 17 and film screenings will be held at multiple locations across the city.
