Actor Deepika Padukone gave a sassy response to a reporter who asked her if her husband Ranveer Singh had invested in Chhapaak, at the launch event for its title track. During the media interaction, addressing Vikrant Massey (Deepika's co-star in Chhapaak), the reporter started slyly, "Aapne kamaal ka kaam kiya hai Deepika ji ke sath. Deepika producer bhi hain film ki. Ranveer sir bhi ek tarah se producer hain kyunki ghar ka paisa laga hua hai."
To which Deepika quipped, "Excuse me. Yeh kisne bola? Yeh mere khud ke paise hain, excuse me. Meri mehnat hai." Meghna also politely supported Deepika, saying, "Yeh assume karna bilkul galat hai." The reporter finally asked Vikrant if Ranveer complimented him for Chhapaak. To this, Vikrant said, "Abhi film release hone wali hai..." Then Meghna added, "...par woh (Ranveer) film dekhenge na pehle, phir compliment denge."
Vikrant further added, "Woh mere bahot achche dost hain, trailer dekh ke unhone kaafi achchi cheezen kahi. Lekin film mein 8 din baaki hain, woh film ke baad kya kehte hain, woh zyada maayne rakhta hai."
In an interview with Harper's Bazaar India, Deepika revealed the reason for producing Chhapaak. "I became a producer because I want to reach more people and create an impact through my films. Cinema is such a powerful tool. You want to use that sensibly. You want to use that wisely. I may not be able to do that every single time, but at least that is the intention," she had said last year. Laxmi was attacked in 2005 at the age of 15.
Laxmi had to undergo several surgeries and later, she took up the job of helping acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop such attacks. The film hit the screens on 10 January, 2020.
