Bollywood first ever female superstar Sridevi breathed her last on Saturday sending the fans and the industry into shock. The Nagina actress who ruled the hearts of millions reportedly died due to accidental drowning in Dubai’s hotel bathtub following loss of consciousness.
The Padma Shree awardee was cremated with full state honours at Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle on Wednesday. Thousands of fans paid their last respect to the beloved actress at Celebration Sports club where her mortal remains were kept for prayer and meet.
Sridevi was in Dubai along with husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor to attend her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. Her sudden demise has created a void in Bollywood which can’t be fulfilled.
The Himmatwala actress had not only a star-studded career in Bollywood but also in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu film industry. Bollywood’s Chandni took a sabbatical from acting in 1997 and made a comeback to the silver screen with English Vinglish in 2012.
The movie which saw Sridevi playing the role of a housewife who enrols in a English speaking course did wonders at the box office. Gauri Shinde directed the comedy drama film which received applauds from all the corners.
There were reports that the dynamic duo will collaborate for the sequel of English Vinglish. Gauri Shinde took to Twitter to lament the loss of her beloved one and shared a still from the movie.
Sri ... I still refuse to believe that I won't be seeing you next week... pic.twitter.com/5DeAWnfqUg— Gauri Shinde (@gauris) March 1, 2018
Fans were very excited when Sridevi shared a picture with Gauri Shinde and wrote the caption, ''coming soon’’.
Though we won’t be able to see Sridevi in English Vinglish’s sequel, but her fine portrayal of Shashi Godbole will remain etched in our hearts forever.
