Kuch Kuch Hota Hai etched a place in the heart of every 90s kid and there is no going back and the day when the film enetered its 21st year of its release, filmmaker Karan Johar thanked the audiences for loving his directorial debut.

Featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji, the romance drama released on October 16, 1998. It was a commercial blockbuster and the three central characters - Rahul (Shah Rukh), Anjali (Kajol) and Tina (Rani) are popular even today. "Firsts are always special! The cast, crew, music and the heart and soul of this film was all in the right place. Thank you for making this journey a timeless one even after 21 years," Karan wrote on Twitter.

The film also starred Salman Khan, Sana Saeed, Farida Jalal, Himani Shivpuri, Archana Puran Singh, Johnny Lever and Anupam Kher. Last year, Karan celebrated the 20 year-milestone of the film in a grand celebration.

Even when the Shah Rukh Khan starrer completed 20 years, the chatter about its sequel or a remake fails to fade away.

Karan Johar has earlier addressed the ever-going speculations at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2019 and made his pick for the millenials he would want to feature if he ever decides to revisit the film.

Karan Johar held a special screening of his debut film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), at the festival to mark the milestone where he revealed that he would want Ranveer Singh to get into the shoes of Shah Rukh Khan as the casanova Rahul. According to Karan, Ranveer has the mad intensity that the character needs.

For Kajol's Anjali he wanted his favourite disciple Alia Bhatt as Anjali as according to the filmmaker she has the spunk and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina because she has the poise required for the part.

Coincidentally though, the trio Ranveer-Alia and Janhvi are coming together for Karan's next directorial,  a period drama set during the Mughal era, titled Takht.
