Good Newwz, featuring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani, is going strong at the box-office. The film has managed to collect Rs 39.34 crore within 2 days of its release. Sharing the box-office report on Twitter, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, ‘’Good Newwz lives up to its title... Metros (especially North circuits0 outstanding... Multiplexes of tier-2 cities very good... Mass pockets witness growth... Eyes Rs 65 cr <+/-> total ... Fri 17.56 cr, Sat 21.78 cr. Total: Rs 39.34 cr. India biz."
The film collected Rs 17.56 crore on its opening day and Rs 21.78 crore on Saturday alone.
Sharing the opening day performance of the film on social media, Mr. Adarsh wrote: "Good Newwz packs a solid total on Day 1... Gathers speed from evening shows... Multiplexes especially record excellent numbers... North circuits dominate... Business should multiply on Day 2 and 3... Fri Rs 17.56 cr. #India business... 2019 concludes with Good Newwz."
The story of the film revolves around two married couples and their journey of love. Akshay and Kareena are seen as Mr. and Mrs. Batra, trying to conceive a baby. On the other hand, Diljit and Kiara too, who share the same surname, also plan to have a baby through IVF. And the real twist comes when Kareena’s eggs are fertilized with Diljit’s sperm and Kiara’s eggs are fertilized with Akshay’s sperm.
Directed by newcomer Raj Mehta and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Good Newwz also features Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra in supporting roles. The film was earlier named Good Newwz but was underwent a spelling change. Producer Karan Johar had announced the name change on Akshay’s 52nd birthday in September.
