Google doodle pays tribute to 'Pancham Da'

Today is the birth anniversary of one of the most popular Bollywood music composers in the 1980s, Rahul Dev Burman or R D Burman. He was also fondly called as Pancham Da by the people in the film fraternity. He was born on June 27, 1939, in Kolkata.

Born to a famous music composer, SD Burman, Pancham Da was considered one of the influential music directors of Bollywood. He had composed music for over 300 movies and became one of the legendary composers of the Indian film and music industry. 

He started his musical journey at a very young age and was already composing music for movies at the age of 9. SD Burman included Pancham Da’s composition Sar jo tera chakraaye in the film Pyaasa

Besides, the composer revolutionised Bollywood music industry with his unique compositions which had music produced out of anything from laughter to clinking glasses. One of his famous songs Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil ko begins with the sound of two clinking glasses. 

Mr Burman died at a very young age of 54. During his musical lifetime, Mr Burman had worked with eminent and legendary singers like Asha Bhosle (his wife), Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. 

He gained popularity with his first movie 'TeesriManzil' (1966). With superhit songs like 'Mere Sapnon kiRani', 'Kora Kaagaz tha' from the movie Aradhana, Burman became immensly popular to take over the music industry in the 1970s along with Kishore Kumar. He composed music for movies like 'Kati Patang', Hare RamaHare Krishna, 'Buddha Mil Gaya', 'Caravan', 'Sholay', 'Aap kiKasam', 'Yaadon ki Baarat', Mili etc.

He won three Filmfare Awards for Best Music Director. To honour the legendary composer on his 77th birthday, Google has posted a doodle on its homepage which is visible in India and Sri Lanka. When you click on the doodle it directs you to the google's search page for Mr Burman.
