Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam on Monday stoked a controversy over early morning Azaan (mosque prayer) while dubbing it as cacophonous and intimidation in nature.

The singer wrote on social media that he was woken up by the sound of a mosque.

He wrote that despite being not a Muslim, he has to be woken up early morning, and questioned that when this forced religiousness would end in the country.

He said that he should not be forced to hear this cacophonous sound.

In his series of tweets, he said that he does not like misuse of electricity and loudspeakers, especial if a person does not have faith in that particular religion.

He dubbed the practice as intimidation in nature.

The singer drew flak from his fans who replied to his tweets, saying that he should not speak against any faith in the manner which he did.
