Richa Chadha to feature in a music video that stars Ed Sheeran (Instagram)

Richa Chadha is known for being vocal about women's rights and gender discrimination. She has always spoken against sexual harassment, objectification and stereotyping of women in Bollywood and now she is featuring in a video that creates global awareness for women’s rights and equality.

The video will feature acclaimed artistes from around the world including Farhan Akhtar Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Hozeir, Emeli Sande among others. Richa will represent India and will be showing statistics of the reality of inequality among the genders.

The video releases today, on the occasion of International Women’s Day today.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the video is being led by a global NGO The Circle.

The publication quoted Richa as saying, “I am excited to be a part of this video. Last year, a survey claimed that India is the world’s most unsafe place for women, and I was really embarrassed. I was even more disturbed to read in another survey that 42% of women think that being beaten is okay.

The actress said that she the progress empty as one has "giant skyscrapers but I cannot go home from my office in the same skyscraper using public transport at 9 p.m. in the night without the fear of assault. And this is true for most parts of India".

There needs to be a drastic shift in mindset if we are to progress in a genuine way as a country. I am grateful that India finds representation in the video.”

Richa will be next seen on the biopic of Malayalam actress Shakeela Khan. Shakeela The film is being helmed by Indrajit Lankesh.
