Shahid Kapoor’s film is running successfully at the box-office.

New Delhi:

Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh continues to weave magic at the box-office. Directed by Sandeep Vanga Reddy, the film has managed to earn Rs 226 crore at the box-office in just 16 days of its release. The film collected Rs 7.51 crore on Saturday, adding to this impressive business. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted the film’s box office figures on Twitter.

''#KabirSingh continues its dream run... Is back in form on [third] Sat... Crosses ₹ 225 cr... Is trending better than #Padmaavat, #Sultan, #Sanju, #BajrangiBhaijaan and #TigerZindaHai in Week 3... [Week 3] Fri 5.40 cr, Sat 7.51 cr. Total: ₹ 226.11 cr. India biz,’’ he wrote.

The film is now expected to gain the top spot in the highest grossing films of 2019, by beating Uri’s lifetime total of Rs. 245.36 crore.

Kabir Singh is the highest grossing solo film of Shahid Kapoor’s career. On the day of its release, the film raked in a staggering Rs. 22.71 crore. While the film is continuing to create magic at the box-office, many criticised it for being "misogynistic" and "patriarchal.''

Asked about the allegations of toxic masculinity and poor treatment of women in the film, Vanga said, ''When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there.” Vanga had previously directed the Telugu hit Arjun Reddy, which was also a major box office success, and had attracted similar criticism, albeit on a smaller scale.

Vanga even slammed the critics and described them as ‘parasites who are the real threat to the film industry’ and said, ''Probably they never experienced (love) in the right way.'' He added, ''They were only on the feminist side, they didn’t speak about anything else.''

Besides Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, Kabir Singh also stars Arjan Bajwa, Suresh Oberoi, Kamini Kaushal, Adil Hussain, Nikita Dutta and Soham Majum among others. The film is a Hindi remake of the 2017 Telugu hit film Arjun Reddy, which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalin Pandey in the lead roles.
