Kalyan Jewellers apologises to bankers, withdraws ad featuring Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter

Kalyan Jewellers on Sunday apologised for their latest promotional ad which featured Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter Shweta Nanda. The jeweller company issued a statement after the ad came under attack by the bank union allegedly in aiming to create distrust in the banking system.

The statement read, ‘’'We understand that the advertisement has hurt sentiments of some people including members of our esteemed banking community. Any such hurtful interpretation being drawn is unintended. We state that the creative advertisement was a work of fiction and not a reflection of banking employees at large’’.

‘’We sincerely regret the inadvertent hurt caused and withdraw the advertisement from all media with immediate effect’’, the statement added.

In the one-and-half-minute ad, Amitabh Bachchan has been portrayed as a honest senior citizen who visit a bank branch with his daughter to return the pension amount mistakenly credited into his account but the bank officer ask him to enjoy with the extra money.

But, being an honest citizen to the society he refused to take the money and ask the bank officer to kindly take the money back.

After the ad was ready to be viewed on the television screen, Amitabh Bachchan wrote an emotional tweet on his daughter first commercial appearance ever on the screen.

In the Malayalam version of the ad, Manju Warrier played his daughter’s role, Shweta Nanda in the Hindi version and Prabhu in the Tamil version.
