After a lot of fracas over its controversial story-line, Kangana Ranaut's much-anticipated film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, is in the news for all the right reasons.

A new poster from the epic biographical drama has paid tribute to Rani Laxmibai, the valiant queen on her 160th death anniversary on Monday.

Taking to photo-blogging site Instagram, the Kangana Ranaut team on Monday shared a new poster from the flick and wrote, "Remembering one of the bravest women that ever lived, #RaniLaxmiBai #Repost if you can’t wait to witness her epic story on screen #KanganaRanaut as #Manikarnika. #deathanniversary #tribute #martyr #Queen #warrior #history."

Born into a Maharashtrian Brahmins family on 19 November 1828 in Varanasi, Manikarnika was one of the important figures of India's independence movement. She took the name of Lakshmi Bai after tying the knot with Jhansi king Raja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar.

Rani Lakshmibai was a symbol of bravery, honour and patriotism and turned out to be a leading figure of Indian Independence for her significant contribution to the Rebellion of 1857. On the unfortunate day of 18 June 1858, Manikarnika martyred her life for India's freedom.

Helmed and produced by Krish and Zee Studios respectively, the story of Manikarnika revolves around the life of Rani Laxmibai, the queen of Jhansi.

Kangana is playing the titular role in Manikarnika, which marks the Bollywood debut of popular television star Ankita Lokhande. Also starring Sonu Sood in a pivotal role, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is expected to hit the theatres in August 2018.

On the work front, Kangana is currently busy shooting for Balaji Telefilms upcoming venture Mental Hai Kya in London. Also starring Rajkummar Rao in a key role, the psychological thriller film is expected to hit the theatres in late 2018.

Post her Manikarnika schedule, Kangana will start working on Ashwini Iyer Tiwary’s next to where she will play the character of a Kabbadi player.
