Kangana Ranaut, who is currently shooting for Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga in Bhopal, recently landed in Mumbai to supervise the edit of her period drama Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The movie was, for a long time, stuck in a whirlwind of controversies, when Kangana claimed to be the director and directed many scenes in the absence of Krish. Reports later claimed that the Queen actor would be sharing the directorial credits with Krish while she re-shot some portions of the film.

The actor even expressed that this was not her first experience in the editing process or directing a film. She said, “I was 23 or 24, when I directed my first film. It was a 10-minute short film that I had shot with an international crew. Also, at that time, I was struggling with small roles in films like Double Dhamaal. So, I have been a director since then. Be it direction, writing or editing, I have already done it all in the past. When everyone asks me if Manikarnika is my first film as a director, my reply is of course not. It's not my first film as a director. You don’t direct a big epic period as your first film."
The Tanu Weds Manu star also exclaimed that along with working on one film, Kangana simultaneously participates in the editing of other. The actor does not feel that she is breaking any stereotypes of forming new grounds by doing so. "Every film that I do is important to me because I've committed myself to it. I have taken money and assured absolute involvement to the team. But Manikarnika has demanded a lot more of my attention than I intended to give it. I did lose control over things, especially when it came like a hurricane and the way things unfolded overnight. I had to shoot this film amidst a lot of challenges and that was a bit unsettling in the beginning. I had time constraints and bringing the crew was a struggle, which I wasn't ready for, but I surpassed that. Later on, of course I was in my comfort zone and ready to direct. Eventually, I enjoyed it a lot," added the Manikarnika actor.

Helmed by Krish, this Kangana Ranaut-starrer is slated to hit the theatres on the occasion of Republic Day of 2019. The movie may clash with Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30.
Ever since the film went on floors, Manikarnika has been in the news for no good reasons. One of the most controversial films of the year, Manikarnika had to face a lot of backlash from its cast and crew. The budget of Manikarnika has reportedly escalated from Rs 60 crore to Rs 125 crore, Kangana taking over the reins from director Krish and co-star Sonu Sood abandoning the project due to differences with her.
The cast also includes Ankita Lokhande, Suresh Oberoi, and Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta among others.
