Deepika Padukone recently was at the centre of a social media storm after an influencer attempted at recreating her acid attack survivor 'look' from her latest film Chhapaak. The TikTok challenge thrown by the 34-year-old actor was called 'insensitive', 'crass' and the 'worst kind of a promotion'. Kangan Ranaut who has earlier lauded the actress for her attempt in bringing the struggle of an acid attack survivor to forefront recently criticized her social media promotion trick and Asked her to ‘apologise’ for her ‘insensitive approach.’
Speaking to India Today, Kangana said that her sister Rangoli who herself had undergone several surgeries for being attacked by acid at a tender age was offended after watching the video. “Rangoli is an acid attack survivor and she was very hurt seeing the video. Sometimes, marketing teams tend to go overboard with their promotions, and I am sure Deepika must be having some explanation for this,” the Panga actor said

Kangana added that sometimes we get carried away by Tik Tok videos. Not just the video, she also spoke about Deepika’s visit to JNU. “I think women should support women and I am not somebody to comment on what Deepika has done or should have done. She was exercising her democratic right, but if I were given the choice I would never stand behind the Tukde Tukde gang.”
The actress recently also opened up about her struggles after she left home and how she had to give her node to ‘undeserving’ roles to earn money for sister Rangoli Chandel’s treatment.
''I was just 19, on the threshold of a bright career, when the attack happened and it was a long, hard struggle to deal with this kind of perverse, sexist cruelty. Financially too, I was not strong back then. Girls around me would feel depressed by a bad hair day or because a meal was not to their liking. I was grappling with something far more real and yet had no time to sit and cry. I did tacky films, took on roles I did not deserve, accepted guest appearances, so my sister could be treated by the best surgeon in India. It took 54 surgeries,'' she told Mumbai Mirror in an interview.
Helmed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Panga is all set to hit the screens on January 24, 2020.
