Kangana Ranaut has for sure earned much accolades and fame. But success did not come easily to the 32-year-old actress who has had her brief stint with odd roles before getting recognised by big names for prominent roles.
The actress who made her acting debut with Gangster has never shied away from speaking her mind and letting out dark secrets of the industry be it about nepotism, casting couch, or close friendships. recently in an interview, she made another startling revelation of the kind of roles she was offered during the start of her career.
In a recent interaction with Mid-day, Kangana shared how her parents were scared when she decided to dip toes in Bollywood. She recalled an incident wherein filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani, the former chairman of Central Board of Film Certification had offered her a film that was a kind of 'soft-porn'. she further said for the initial photoshoot of which, she had to pose in just a robe.
She has been quoted as saying, “The fact that people met, and promised to guide, help, but then I was put under house arrest. And then Pahlaj Nihalani had offered me a film called I Love You Boss. They had a photo-shoot where they gave me a robe to wear and no undergarments. So I just had a satin robe for a show-girl pose, from which I had to stick my leg out, coming out of darkness.”
Describing the role she was offered she said, “I was supposed to play a young girl lusting after her middle-aged boss. So it was a soft-porn sort of character. And I had this epiphany that I can't do this. I felt like this is exactly what my parents were talking about.”
Asked if she turned up for the photoshoot, Kangana said although she went through the photoshoot, she changed her number and disappeared soon after. It was the same time she had auditioned for Anurag Basu's Gangster and Puri Jagannadh's Pokiri. While she was shortlisted for both the films, the actor gave her nod to Gangster and made her debut with the film.
Having worked in films like Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, Queen, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai and making her directorial debut with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Kangana is regarded one of the most successful and highest paid actresses in Bollywood.
Besides Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's Panga and Prakash Kovelamudi's Mental Hai Kya, Kangana is also set to star politician Jayalalithaa's biopic titled Thalaivi in Tamil Nadu and Jaya in rest of India.
