Karan Johar who is all set to take on the directors’ seat after the 2016's Ae Dil Hai Muskhil had the movie-buffs intrigued with the announcement of his own period drama, ‘Takht’. With Bollywood-A listers like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Anil Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles set in the Mughal era, ‘Takht’ as a period drama in all likelihood looks like a movie that will place Johar step beyond his usual, romantic dramas.
The Johar culture-rich period drama which is expected to go on floors this year has been by all virtue been compared to the period drama king maker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films in a dozen of interviews. The filmmaker in a recent interaction with DNA was asked if his period drama had a source of inspiration from SLB’s movies, to which he replied, “I have been asked that and other such questions. While I am a huge fan of SLB, as someone who loves his work, I understand that he has set the benchmark already. However, I am hoping that what I do with Takht will be completely individualistic. Takht will have its own energy and charm.” been asked if he will draw inspiration from Bhansali’s films for Takht.
‘Takht’ which sees Anil Kapoor as the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal will be seen as his sons Dara Sukoh and Aurangzeb, respectively is set for a December 2020 release.
