After much wait, Karan Johar's Dharma Production has finally released the teaser of his most ambitious project Kalank starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. The teaser is creating a positive buzz with the oppulence of its sets, integuing background narrative and the expressions of the characters.
But, here's a shocker. Karan Johar biography, 'An Unsuitable Boy' states that the actor's first choice for the lead roles were Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, the famous trio of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and also Ajay Devgn.Â
The excerpt from his book also states that he was penning the love story set during the pre-Partition times after he has developed 'Kabhi Alvina Na Kehna.' The story was about two homes and even had a 'Hindu-Muslim' angle to it.

Karan has earlier revealed that Kalank was originally conceptualised a decade and a half ago when his father, the late Yash Johar was alive and he was supposed to direct Kalank. Pre-production had begun, but it got shelved. Then, Karan passed the baton on to filmmaker Abhishek Varman.

Although he has not stated why Kalank got shelved, it makes us ponder if his difference with Shah Rukh and later with Kajol and devgn was the reason why his dreams could come true!
The film is all set to release on April 17 this year.
