Kesari starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra in pivotal roles crossed Rs 100 crore mark in just seven days on Wednesday. The film has also become the "fastest 100 crore grosser of 2019," reports Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The period drama has even left behind Ranveer Singh's Gully Boy and Ajay Devgn's Total Dhamaal, which had crossed the 100-crore-mark on the eighth and ninth day of their release respectively.

Sharing the latest box-office figures of Kesari, Taran Adarsh wrote, ''#Kesari is now *fastest* ₹ 100 cr grosser of 2019 … Crosses ₹ 100 cr on Day 7… Thu 21.06 cr, Fri 16.75 cr, Sat 18.75 cr, Sun 21.51 cr, Mon 8.25 cr, Tue 7.17 cr, Wed 6.52. Total: ₹ 100.01 cr. India biz… ₹ 100 cr in days: #GullyBoy . #TotalDhamaal .”

Kesari
collected Rs 21 crore on its opening day and emerged as the biggest opener of 2019. The film is based on the battle of Saragarhi fought between the British Indian army’s Sikh Regiment and Afghan tribesmen in September 1897. A total of 21 Sikh soldiers, who were part of the British Indian Army, were attacked by 10,000 Afghan tribal warriors. These 21 soldiers fought like lions to protect their country from the enemy.

Recently, in a behind-the-scene video for the film, Akshay had revealed that the entire sets of Kesari was engulfed by fire in Wai and turned into ashes in a matter of minutes. ''We had already almost finished all the shooting and were about to shoot an important portion for our battle. We were all set, there were about seven cameras, but then suddenly, there was fire. Within seconds, the entire set was engulfed in fire, even before anyone could react. We didn’t realise there was something that just took off and the entire set literally melted away,'' Akshay said in the video.

Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari also stars Siddhant Sharma, Ashwath Bhatt, Pawan Malhotra and Rana Ranbir. The film hit the screens on Holi on March 21, 2019.
