Tamil horror movie Kanchana will be remade in Bollywood and Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani have been roped in for the lead roles. While the third instalment of the movie will release next week, makers have taken up the official rights of the Raghava Lawrence directorial last year,
Reveals a source close to the unit in interaction with Mid Day, "While Akshay plays the protagonist who gets possessed by the spirit of a transgender, Kiara will portray the superstar's girlfriend in the movie. Although the female lead did not have a significant role in the original version, Kiara will enjoy a substantial part in the adaptation. The script too has been tweaked to suit the sensibilities of the Hindi film audience."
Mid Day also contacted the co-producer of Kanchana remake Shabina Khan for further confirmation and she too confirmed the report saying, "Yes, we have signed Kiara for the Kanchana remake.
The director of the original Tamil film, Raghava Lawrence will himself step into the director's shoes for the Hindi remake. According to reports, Akshay and Kiara will begin shooting for the film in the second half of this month in a start-to-finish schedule. The movie is likely to be renamed Lakshmi for the Hindi version.
Akshay Kumar has already tried his hand in horror comedy with Bhool Bhulaiya in 2007. Seems like after making a mark with films that give out a social statement and action flicks, Akshay wants to master this genre yet another time.
This isn't the first time Akshay and Kiara will be collaborating for a film together. They will be seen sharing screen space in Good News, also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh. For the uninitiated, the 26-year-old actress was launched by producer Akshay in Fugly. Kiara has also starred in Kalank for a dance number slated for an April 17 release.
