I feel kids should come outside and play: Kiran Rao

Filmmaker Kiran Rao is concerned about internet addiction among children and feels it is the responsibility of parents to judge how much time the young minds should spend online.

"I have a kid of 5 years. I also have to face internet addiction among kids," Kiran said. "As a parent, as a mom we have a responsibility of how much screen time you should give them (on internet) and how much you should restrict them. As kids (they) need to go outside to play and interact with each other," she said in a statement here.

Kiran, wife of superstar Aamir Khan, is supporting the upcoming Mumbai Juniorthon which will be held on December 4. Last year, the event was attended by child actors including Harshaali Malhotra, Darsheel Safary among others and was supported by actors like Jacqueline Fernandez, Vivek Oberoi and Sharman Joshi.

The event aims to create awareness on the rise of childhood obesity and related diseases due to lack of outdoor activities. It also focuses on the importance of exercise and a healthy lifestyle by encouraging children to walk and be active each day. The "Dhobi Ghat" helmer also spoke on the need to change the lifestyle of children.

"I feel kids should come outside and play. Kids should do something together and not just watch TV alone. I hope Juniorthon will be a big success," Kiran said. Mumbai Juniorthon caters to children in the age group of 6-15 years.
