Legendary Actor Shriram Lagoo Dies At 92.

Dr. Shriram Lagoo, well known actor, thinker and social activist, died at the age of 92 on Tuesday evening. The legendary actor died of cardiac arrest at his Pune residence around 8 pm. The last rites will be performed after his son comes from the US, his wife Deepa Lagoo said in a statement.

Bollywood celebs including Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Ashoke Pandit, Madhur Bhandarkar along with politicians like Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and others took to their respective social media accounts to mourn the demise of the veteran actor.

Rishi Kapoor tweeted, "R I P. One of the most natural spontaneous actors, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo sahab leaves us. Did several films way back. Unfortunately never got to work with him in the past 25/30 years. He had a retired life in Pune. Love you Dr. Sahab."

Paresh Rawal also expressed his grief over the demise of Lagoo. ‘’Truly a GREAT theatre actor Dr Shreeram Lagoo Saab is no more . AUM Shanti,’’ he wrote.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit wrote, "Sad to know about the demise of a great actor Shriram Lagoo ji at the age of 92. The theatre & film industry will miss him. ओम् शांति !"

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar wrote, ''Saddened to hear demise of veteran actor Dr. #ShriramLagoo sir. He was great socialist and versatile actor, his contributions will always be remembered for his memorable roles in theatre & films. #OmShanti.''

Minister of Information and broadcasting Prakash Javadekar mourned the demise of the legend. He tweeted, "My tributes to all time great artist Shreeram Lagoo. We have lost a versatile personality. A unique theatre actor dominated silver screen and created impact. He was social activists simultaneously."

Dr. Shriram Lagoo made a huge contribution to Marathi and Hindi films. Many of the plays he performed on the theater were big succeses. He had acted in over 100 Hindi and Marathi films, over 40 Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati plays, and has directed over 20 Marathi plays. He was considered one of greatest actors of Marathi stage during the second half of twentieth century. He won the 1978 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for the Hindi film Gharaonda.

Lagoo was also very vocal and active in furthering progressive and rational social causes. In 1999, he and social activist G. P. Pradhan undertook a fast in support of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.
