India film industry is riding the biopic wave with movies like Manikarnika, NTR Kathanayakude, J Jayalalithaa's biopic Thalaivi and even Narendra Modi's biopic. The latest one to join the bandwagon is Telegu superstar Mahesh Babu with his maiden production venture for his home venture GMB, titled Major.
Mahesh Babu is jointly producing Major along with Sony Pictures International Productions that essays the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.
Critically acclaimed writer turned actor Adivi Sesh, who won laurels for his performance and screenplay writing in Telugu film Goodachari, will essay Major Sandeep's role in the biopic.
Sesh took to Twitter, on February 27, to announce the film. He wrote, "Told you I had MAJOR news! 6 reasons why #MajorTheFilm is my dream project!- Based on the Life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, A Real life Hero of 26/11- SUPERSTAR @urstrulyMahesh producing my film! Major Sandeep was an army officer serving in the Special Action Group of the National Security Guards. He is martyred whiling saving hostages during the 26/11 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist attack at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. In 2009, he was awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously, which is India's highest peacetime gallantry award.
Director Sashi Kiran Tikka, who produced Goodachari, will be donning the director's hat for this film. The bilingual biopic will hit the screens sometime in 2020.
Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film Maharshi, directed by Vamshi Paidipally, will be released worldwide April 25.
