Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi on Thursday accused singer and actor Ali Zafar of sexually harassing her on several occasions. The actress, who made her film debut with Mira Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist, shared her ordeal on Twitter.

Ali Zafar is a popular singer and musician in Pakistan and has acted in Bollywood films like Tere Bin Laden, Chashme Baddoor and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

Shafi posted a long note on the micro-blogging site about the alleged sexual harassment by the actor-sinnger.

The 36-year-old actress said that she opened up about the harassment because her conscience didn’t allow her to remain silent. The Ye Zindagi To Woh Nahi star also said that she faced harassment despite being an accomplished and empowered woman who speaks her mind.

''Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo,’’ The Waar actress wrote.

Meesha’s accusation comes in the wake of the #MeToo movement which started in Hollywood. Several leading actresses have given shocking details about the deep-rooted culture of sexual harassment in the industry.

The movement has also gained traction in India as an aspiring actress Sri Reddy stripped in public to protest against casting couch in Tollywood. The actress had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by the son of leading director.
