Mimicry is fine, mocking someone is deadly – a lesson for Tanmay and team

With raging issue over Tanmay Bhat's latest video mocking Cricket’s God Sachin Tendulkar and India’s nightingale Lata Mangeshkar, a serious question has emerged - how easy and injurious are such comic acts for current generation.

Only in few months, this has almost become a shortcut formula to attract stardom; say bad words or mock famous personalities to attract the lime light then use it to get some fame and fill your pockets.

Last year, AIB, of which Tanmay is a part, came under deep trouble for its roast and also abusive content with Bollywood names like Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar. Some called it a cool move while many turned red over the whole show. The matter was so serious that even FIRs were filed against the actors. But, what matters most is where are we actually leading the mindset?

Are youths crossing their boundaries to exploit freedom of Digital media? Well, the answer do sounds disappointing and it is 'Yes'. Now days, it has become so easy that if you do find a way to make your video a trend then your pockets will definitely be loaded with huge amount of cash. And this is why we have found many online channels like AIB, Qutiyapa and many more.

There are 'n' number of videos one can find trending on social media which are heavily loaded with abusive content and are making money because people are watching them. There are restrictions over such content but with very ease terms and conditions can be breached.

They say it's funny! I believe it is something of serious concern. What we see is what we perceive and such jokes (even with a disclaimer) can only set the notion of mind in a wrong direction, especially for kids who can easily access internet.

Now, this is a topic that one can debate for days or even months but solution would be far from reach. The only thing that one could do to sustain the great health of digital media is to realize certain limits which should not impact the society in a bad manner.

Seriously, mocking legends is easy but playing with their niche is not funny – exactly what many celebs said for Tanmay's video.

Mumbai police has initiated a probe on a complaint against comedian Tanmay Bhat's video of a mock conversation with Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar that has sparked a massive outrage with the Shiv Sena, BJP and MNS today demanding action against him and AIB.
