Mission Mangal featuring Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen is doing wonders at the box office. The film which released this Independence Day is said to have recorded the highest Sunday collections of the year at the domestic box office. According to a report in Boxofficeindia, the film collected around Rs 27-27.50 crore net on Sunday which takes its total to around Rs 97 crore. On the opening day, Akshay Kumar’s film earned Rs 29.16 crore.
It is also the second highest Bollywood opener of 2019. The plot of the film revolves around India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, mainly led by a team of women scientists.Talking about the film, Akshay recently said, ''Our aim to make the film was to make science very simple. Even I didn't know about this (the science behind it) but the story was so systematic, I understood it," he added. In the film, the actor shares screen space with five female actors and emphasised that the young actors of today should do more multiple hero projects, which they aren't being a part of anymore. I tried to find out why but everyone wants to do a solo hero subject. The earlier generation, my generation used to do that. If you see (now), there's no three hero subject.''
Meanwhile, John Abraham starrer Batla House collected around Rs 11.50-12 crore on Sunday. The film has earned Rs 47 crore in four days. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film is based on the 2008 Batla House encounter case. Batla House collected Rs 14.59 crore on the opening day.
