Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan, India's noted sitar player died in Mumbai on Wednesday after a brief illness.He was 88. Khan passed away at his home in suburban Bandra, family sources said.
He was Conferred with the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi awards.
He belonged to the Indore Gharana and was known the unique music style of 'Jafferkhani Baaj'.
His work is showcased in several Hindi films, including Mughal-E-Azam, Kohinoor, Goonj Uthi Shehnai and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje.
Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan was the last of the Sitar Trinity that comprised Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Vilayat Khan.
