Netflix buys 'Baahubali' franchise rights for Rs 25.5 cr

It's been a while when the entire nation was taken over with the Baahubali mania after ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli came up with the sequel of his popular franchise.

And now popular online streaming service Netflix has officially acquired the streaming rights of the Baahubali series. According to a report published in Live Mint, Netflix has bought the rights at a whopping price of Rs 25.5 crore,

Reportedly, Netflix is planning to expand its business in India and given the popularity of the Baahubali franchise, which has broken several box office records, Netflix chose to buy its rights. Baahubali will be available in 192 countries.

Bollywood trade analyst Ramesh Bala took it to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the news and wrote, "@NetflixIndia acquires the streaming rights @BaahubaliMovie for a whopping $4 Million [₹ 25.50 Crs] - Will be available in 192 countries.."

Talking about the same, Baahubali producer Shobu Yarlagadda told Live Mint, "Netflix is very bullish about the India market and is here for the long term. It is looking to acquire both licensed content and make originals but won't lap up everything."

 "We are very happy and excited to partner with Netflix. Theatrically, it's not possible to reach all markets, but with this deal, Baahubali will reach 192 countries seamlessly," he added.

Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan star in pivotal roles, 'Baahubali 2' became the first Indian film to gross Rs 1000 crore at the box office.
