Deepika Padukone is one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood and a role model for millions of women, in her own right. The power-packed performer, who is currently basking in the glory of Padmaavat, is the sole Indian actor to feature in Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people.
Other Indians named in list include Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, Ola co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal, B and Microsoft's Indian-born CEO Satya Nadella.
Interestingly, Deepika’s co-star from the film xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Vin Diesal, wrote her profile. The Fast and Furious actor called the Tamasha star an individual who represented the world and not just India.
“When Deepika Padukone came in to read for one of the Fast and the Furious films, I knew instantly I was in the presence of someone very special. As soon as she entered the room, there was a synchronicity, a synergy, a chemistry - it promised great things to come. Her schedule didn’t work for that movie, but I never gave up. She was the first role we cast in ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’. She said, ‘I want to do this movie, but if I do, you have to come to India.’ Thank God I made that deal,” Vin Diesel wrote.
The annual list, which is in its fifteenth year, honours and recognises the innovation, activism and achievement of the world’s most influential people. Prominent celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Gal Gadot, Ryan Coogler, Hugh Jackman and Sterling K Brown have featured in the list.
Another Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra was included in the list released in 2016. The Quantico star featured on the issue cover of TIME magazine back then.
News Nation congratulates Deepika Padukone on the achievement and we hope she continues to be an inspiration for millions.
