Padmaavat 'Ban' row: Madhur Bhandarkar welcomes SC's decision

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’ has been mired in controversy ever since he started shooting in Jaipur.  The film which stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles has attracted eyeballs for not so good reasons.

From political groups demanding a ban on the movie to royals raising objection on the dance of Deepika in the ‘Ghoomar’ song, the movie has seen it all. The period drama, earlier titled Padmavati was renamed as Padmaavat after censor board asked the makers to make some modifications.

After incorporating the changes suggested by CBFC, the makers announced that the movie will release on January 25. Interestingly, another much-awaited movie PadMan is releasing on the same date.

The makers received a bolt from the blue when the state governments of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh issued a notification banning the screening of the movie. The producer Viacom 18 Motion Pictures had moved the Supreme Court challenging the ban in the four states.

The Supreme Court on Thursday, stayed the orders and notifications issued by the four states prohibiting the film’s screening.

Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar while talking to ANI welcomed the decision of the apex court. The ‘Fashion’ director hoped that the government will provide security to the movie goers who go to watch Padmaavat.
