The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the plea of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments' to ban Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat observing that the states will have to screen the movie.
It was reported that the two state governments had requested to ban the release of Padmaavat citing law and order issues.
But SC ruled out their plea and said, "It's an order, better abide by it. You (states) can advise people not to watch the movie."
Dipak Misra, Chief Justice of India, further stated, "We passed an order and our orders required to be complied by all."Â
"People can't come and say law and order problems, ban the movie. Let us not come to a state where the exhibition of a movie, despite certified by the censor board, is crippled," he added.
Our review petition in Supreme Court has been rejected as well. Now, we have no other alternative but to ensure law & order situation in the state & that we will do: Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria #Padmaavat pic.twitter.com/9OXMYZljHQ

Interestingly, Padmaavat has been witnessing violent protests from several Rajput groups including the Karni Sena since the movie was announced.
Karni Sena had alleged that the Bhansali directorial distorts history and hurts the emotional sentiments of the people by the way it presents legendary Rajput Queen Padmini.
Though the fringe groups have been making attempts to block the release of Padmaavat, the SC's order has thwarted their last efforts as well.
Earlier, Supreme Court had ruled out the ban imposed by four states over the release of Padmaavat and said that it is the job of the state to maintain law and order situation.
Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, will release on January 25.
