'Padmavati' controversy: Shahid Kapoor speaks on vandalising, burning of sets, calls it 'unfortunate'

Shahid Kapoor, who is busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati', has condemned the recent attack on the sets of the movie and called it an unfortunate incident.

Reportedly, a group of 40-50 people had attacked the Padmavati sets in Kolhapur on Tuesday night. They not just fought off with the guards, but also vandalised the sets and set it on fire.

While the incident has left the entire 'Padmavati' team horrified, no one was injured on the sets.

Talking about the same Shahid Kapoor told a leading daily, “I am aware that there has been some disruption that has happened. I am aware that a certain amount of costumes got burnt. I am aware everybody is safe and nobody got harmed. The shooting has wrapped up and the team is coming back. What I am not aware of is who has done it. It is unfortunate that something like this has happened for the second time. As soon as there is some clarity, the production house will respond to it. No principal actors were there.”

Notably, this is the second time 'Padmavati' sets have been attacked. Earlier, the incident took place in Jaipur after a group of Rajput Karni Sena assaulted Bhansali for allegedly distorting the facts in the movie.

While the reason behind the attack is still not known, the makers have filed a complaint against the culprits and the police is investigating the matter.

Talking about 'Padmavati', the movie happens to be a periodic drama based on Rajput princess 'Padmavati'.

The movie stars Deepika Padukone in the titular role, while Shahid Kapoor will play Padmavati's husband Raja Rawal Ratan Sing. Besides, Deepika's rumoured beau Ranveer Singh will essay the role of lead antagonist Alauddin Khilji.

'Padmavati' is slated to release in November this year.
