Panga: Director Ashwiny Tiwari Reveals Kangana Ranaut Gained Weight To Essay Role Of Athlete

Kangana Ranaut is known to go to any extent to get in the skin of her character. The actress who took Bharatnatyam lessons, learned Tamil, Telegu for her character in Jayalalitha biopic gained weight for Ashwiny Tiwari’s Panga. The first poster of the film dropped recently and Kangana has gone all de-glam to sport a cotton sari look for her role of a house-wife who later goes to follow her passion of the national sport of India, Kabaddi.  

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari revealed that Kangana had to put on a few Kgs for her role in Panga. However, she feels that her body type is such that it does not look like she has gained weight. Kangana lost weight in no time and regained it for her next.

Director Ashwiny Iyer also spoke about the story of the film and said that it challenges the ordinary life and motivates a woman to take up her passion. 

She further spoke about her directorial debut Nil Battey Sannata that revolved around a mother going back to school to encourage her daughter to study, saying that people did not believe in her but she was bent on reinventing herself as she feels one will reach the saturation point if they don't evolve with time.

Kangana earlier revealed that she found the story of Panga touching. She has been roped to play the national-level kabbadi player for the first time. "My family has been my pillar of strength and have always stood by me in thick and thin. I could really relate to the emotions of the film. Plus, Ashwiny is known for her slice-of-life films and I loved her recent work Bareilly Ki Barfi. Panga is doubly special for me as for the first time, I will play the role of a national-level kabbadi player. That's going to be challenging for sure! I am looking forward to some exciting times with Ashwiny and the Fox Star team ," the Queen actor had said.

Earlier there were reports saying that Ashwiny had made Kangana sign a ‘no-interference’ clause, however, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari later slammed the rumours. She even write a heartfelt gratitude note addressing Kangana after the wrapped the shoot of the film.

Meanwhile, the film also stars Neena Gupta and Richa Chaddha in prominent roles and is slated to hit the screens on 24 January, 2020.
