Kangana Ranaut’s latest release, Panga released on 24 January and has received rave reviews from the audience and critics alike. In the film, Kangana is playing the role of a retired kabaddi player, who returns to the sport after a seven-year break. The film has minted Rs 2.7 crore on its first day of release.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the performance report of the film on social media and wrote: "Panga records a low total on Day 1... Gathered momentum towards evening shows at select multiplexes, but occupancy at multiplexes of Tier-2 and 3 cities remained dull... Strong word of mouth should ensure growth on Day 2 and 3... Fri Rs 2.70 cr. India business."

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari revealed that Kangana had to put on a few kgs for her role in Panga. ''Kangana had to put on some weight, but her body type is such that it doesn’t look extra on her. She immediately lost the kilos, but has put them back for her next. I don’t know how she does it over and over; I have difficulty losing even once.''
Kangana earlier revealed that she found the story of Panga touching. "My family has been my pillar of strength and have always stood by me in thick and thin. I could really relate to the emotions of the film. Plus, Ashwiny is known for her slice-of-life films and I loved her recent work Bareilly Ki Barfi. Panga is doubly special for me as for the first time, I will play the role of a national-level kabbadi player. That's going to be challenging for sure! I am looking forward to some exciting times with Ashwiny and the Fox Star team [the producers]," the Queen actor had said.
Other than Kangana Ranaut, Panga also features Neena Gupta, Richa Chadha and singer Jassie Gill. While Jassie Gill plays Kangana's character Jaya Nigam's husband Prashant, Neena Gupta and Richa Chadha play her mother and mentor, respectively.
