The trailer of Kartik Aaryan’s much-awaited film, Pati Patni Aur Woh hit the internet on Monday and shows his character caught between his wife and girlfriend. Kartik Aaryan plays the role of Chuntu Tyagi, the ‘adarshwadi’ pati and government employee who is married to Bhumi Pednekar's character while Ananya is the 'Woh' in this crazy equation. While many lauded the trailer for its quirky dialogue and comic timing, some got irked by one particular dialogue that talks about marital rape.
Kartik Aaryan's monolog goes as, "Biwi se sex maang lein, toh hum bhikaari. Biwi ko sex mana kar dein, toh hum atyachaari aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke uss se sex haasil kar lein na toh balaatkaari bhi hum hain." However, this didn't go down well with the Twitterati. While one user wrote, "Did the monologue in the trailer of #PatiPatniAurWoh seriously just defend marital rape????,'' another user wrote, "Saw trailer of #PatiPatniAurWoh and what a shameful statement what says that "Rape" is a "Jugad Sex"Utterly disgraced by this dialogue and atleast didn't expect this from @TheAaryanKartik."

...so the whole team of this movie think rape is a joke..."balatkaar" is not a joke and no wife would tag her husband as "balatkaari" just for fun...stop justifying stupidity just bcoz ur need a rhyming scheme in ur dialogues..!!!— Apurva (@Apurva81287066) November 4, 2019

This misogyny needs to end! A woman's power to consent is not something to joke about and what makes it worse is that 20-something year olds are being part of such projects. #PatiPatniAurWoh #Hindifilmindustry #MaritalRape

Its 2019 and still people think it's okay to joke about rape! Cringeworthy at all levels!

Fans had criticized the film's concept as being sexist in the past too. While addressing the controversy, Bhumi Pednekar said, "It's a situational comedy but it's not frivolous. It's empowering to both the genders. There's nobody who is black-and-white in real life too. I think the makers have been conscious to make sure they do not turn this into a sexist, baseless film," Bhumi told reporters."I think everybody who's part of this film, be it Bhushan sir, Juno or Mudassar sir, belong to that school of thought. This could go wrong so easily but they have been sensitive and careful. It's a big achievement," she added.
Pati Patni Aur Woh is an adaptation of the 1978 drama of the same name, which featured Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur in the lead roles. It is being directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Juno Chopra. The film is slated to release on 6 December, 2019.
Apart from this, Kartik also has Dostana 2 alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Aaj Kal with rumoured girlfriend Sara Ali Khan. Ananya Panday will team up with Ishaan Khatter for the movie "Khaali Peeli", backed by filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar.
