Payal Rohatgi who was arrested on Monday over her 'objectionable' content on social media sites against Nehru-Gandhi family has been granted bail by a local court in Rajasthan's Bundi. The bail comes a day after she arrested in a case registered on a complaint of a Congress leader for allegedly posting objectionable content against Nehru-Gandhi family.
Charmesh Sharma, general secretary of the Rajasthan Youth Congress, had filed a police complaint against Rohatgi at the Sadar police station in Bundi on October 2. In his complaint, Sharma allegeds that Rohatgi posted “obnoxious and controversial” content against the the Nehru-Gandhi family on her social media account on September 6 and September 21 this year. On Monday, the actor was formally placed under arrest by the Bundi police and produced before the judge.
Payal herself confirmed the news of arrest on Twitter. The case has been registered under Sections 66 & 67 of IT Act.
Tagging the PMO and HMO, Rohatgi wrote: ''I am arrested by @PoliceRajasthan for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from Google. Freedom of Speech is a joke. @PMOIndia @HMOIndia.'' Bundi SP Mamta Gupta told PTI, "Police on Sunday morning detained Payal Rohatgi from her residence in Amhadabad for interrogation in a case under the IT Act. She is being brought to Bundi for interrogation."
The SP had then said that since the actress was not cooperating in investigation, a police team was bringing her to Bundi. "Our team was there (in Ahmadabad) for investigation in the case against her but she was not cooperating," the SP said, adding her formal arrest was likely to be made after interrogation.
