Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon on Tuesday said the combination of a "political will" and setting up of fast track courts is necessary to curb growing incidents of rape in the country.
Speaking to reporters, Tandon said she had been airing her views on social media since the 2012 Delhi gangrape and murder incident.
"A political will and the project to set up fast track courts are needed (to curb rape incidents)," Tandon said while responding to a query. The actress was in the city to attend a programme of make-up artists.
Earlier Raveena met mother of Nirbhaya at an event and called her the strongest women she will ever come acreoss . "With one of the strongest women I will ever meet #ashadevi , from 2012 to 2019 ,Her tears haven’t dried up. Nothing seems to have changed. Stronger political will,fast track courts,stringent tougher laws and spreading awareness and educating people , need of the hour. Met her at a panel discussion , our demands remain the same , years have gone by and her words still ring in my ears .. 4 days she says , just 4 days, all remains in the news with candlelight marches and strong political statements and 5 th day,all returns to normal, back to business. Totally forgotten till the next horrific incident. Till when will we keep sacrificing our daughters to these depraved ,monsters , who cannot be classified as human beings . Emotionless,unremorseful ."
Demanding justice for the victims and quick puishment for criminals Shilpa added, "They don’t deserve to be set free in this society,back on the streets . More power to mothers like her who have been crusaders to see that this doesn’t happen again and again ,and have been fighting a traumatic battle since years . Time they got justice.
Raveena has satrred in films like Jaago and Matr that deals with sexual harrasement and rape. Jaago is based on a true incident from August 2002, in which a mentally challenged 10-year-old girl was raped on her local commuting train. The plot deals with the rape and death of a ten-year-old schoolgirl and the dramatic quest for justice by a lone but determined police inspector.
In Matr she plays the role of a school teacher who is gangraped along with his daughter and narrates the story of her struggle of bringing down people of influence who were committed teh crime.
Raveena Tandon's contemporary Shilpa Shetty also took to Instagram to express anger and anxiety over the series of violent sexual attacks and murders of women across the country. The actress added Beti Bachao cant just be relegated to a mere campaign. It needs to be put into action.
Earlier after the brutial rape and murder of Hyderabad veterinary doctor shook the nation actors like Rakul Preet Singh, Farhan Akhtar expressed thee need of stringent measure and strict punishment for rapists to counter the rising cases of sexual harassment in women.
After the Hyderabad encounter, Tollywood celebs like Nagarjuna Akkeini, Alla Arjun rejoiced the event and thanked the police officials for such fast measures.
