Vetaran actor Prakash Raj during Q&A with reporter in Press Club of Bengaluru talked about his ideology of actors joining politics. Recently, several actors from South Indian Film industry are in talks of joining politics.
The 52-year old actor said, “I do not subscribe to the idea of actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Pawan Kalyan and Upendra launching political outfits just because they are actors though I am a fan of all these stars’’.
He further added by saying that the actors should enter into politics, “I have respect for them as actors but that does not mean that I will vote for them. They have to demonstrate how much they understand our culture, the problems and how they will respond to it’’.
He called it a disaster and said that the actor should come up with a clear focus on issues faced by the country and win the trust of the people. He also urged to the people that they should not vote them as fans but as responsible citizens.
He said, “I won’t vote for them just because they are actors. When an actor ventures into politics, I want to know, what is his manifesto, how would he understand problems being faced by people like me. If I am convinced, my vote will go in favour of him and his party. I don’t endorse them and their party just because I am disillusioned with other political parties’’.
When asked on his future plans of joining politics, he said, “The question of distancing from the film world, with which I am associated with for nearly three decades, does not arise. At present, I am enjoying what I am doing, including, acting, writing and farming’’.
